THIBODAUX - With a preseason tune-up against Southern Miss under their belts, the Nicholls State University women's soccer team opens the 2010 regular season this weekend with a trip to the Holiday Inn-Waller College Invitational at Prairie View A&M in Prairie View, Texas this weekend.

The Colonels will get the 2010 season underway by taking on the host PVAMU Panthers with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on Friday night.  After Friday night's season opener, the Colonels will benefit from a day off before taking on Alcorn State on Sunday in a 10:00 a.m. match.

Nicholls heads into the 2010 season opener against the Panthers looking to rebound from a 3-2 loss in an exhibition match with Southern Miss on Sunday.  The Colonels, who opened the 2009 season with a 6-0 loss at Southern Miss, faced an early 2-0 deficit before battling back to make it a 3-2 final.

The Colonels head into Friday night's season opener led by senior forward Kaity Mattsson.  Mattsson, who started the Nicholls comeback with a goal against Southern Miss, finished third in the conference in goals scored in 2009 and took over the top spot on Nicholls' all-time goals and points lists.

Following the weekend's competition, the Colonels will return to Louisiana for an Aug. 27 match against Southern in Baton Rouge before opening the home portion of their 2010 schedule against the Jackson State Tigers on Sept. 3.
