Molly Mersereau stopped eight shots but it wasn't enough to hold off ULL on Friday night

LAFAYETTE, La.- The Colonels' school record unbeaten streak came to an end on Friday night, as the Nicholls State University women's soccer team (4-1-1) suffered it's first loss of the season with a 2-0 defeat at UL-Lafayette (4-3-0).
The Colonels entered the game riding high on a four-match winning streak that was the longest in school history, and off to the best start to a season since the founding of the program in 1998. Unfortuantely, the Colonels could not stretch their unblemished start to six as an aggressive Cajun attack outshot Nicholls 19-3, putting ten shots on goal.
The Nicholls defense did what they could, forcing nine shots off target and redshirt junior goalkeeper
Molly Mersereau racked up an impressive eight saves on the night, but it wasn't enough as ULL broke through with goals in the 18th and 38th minutes.
Friday's match marked the Colonels' first attempt at setting a new single season school wins record. With four wins on the year, Nicholls has already equaled the school wins record set in 2003, 2006 and 2009.
The Colonels will look to rebound on Sunday when Nicholls heads to Mississippi Valley State to take on the Devillettes. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in Itta Bena, Miss.
