Box Score and Play-by-Play
RUSTON, La. - After a 12-day layoff, the Nicholls State University women's soccer team (5-2-1) fell victim to one of the hottest teams in the country on Friday afternoon as the Western Athletic Conference power Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters improved to 10-2 and won their eighth consecutive match by a final of 8-0 in Ruston.
Nicholls has already clinched the best season in school history thanks to a 5-1-1 start to the season. However, the Colonels were no match for La Tech on the day. La Tech got three goals from Taylor Dennis, two from Kiva Gresham and one each from Rachel King, Heather Fitzgerald and Paige Dunn.
La Tech got three goals in the first before scoring five in the second. The La Tech defense recorded it's sixth shutout of the season by limiting Nicholls to just three shots on the afternoon.
Friday's match concludes a stretch of eight consecutive matches played away from Nicholls to open the season for the Colonels. The Colonels' home opener against Jackson State on Sept. 3 was moved to Pan American Stadium in City Park - New Orleans.
Nicholls will look to regain the form that saw the Colonels beat the school's single season wins record through just the first seven matches of the season when the Colonels host their first on-campus match of the season on Sunday against Grambling. Kick off is set for 1 p.m. at the Nicholls Soccer Field.
The Colonels will also host their annual alumni weekend with alumni games taking place between former members of the Nicholls men's and women's soccer teams on Saturday, preceeding Sunday's Grambling match. Additionally, former members of the Nicholls men's soccer team will be honored following the first quarter of the Nicholls vs. Bacone homecoming football game on Saturday.
