Patrick Dolan Named National Academic All-Star

2010 Football Championship Subdivision Athletic Directors Association Academic All-Star Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio -
Nicholls State University senior punter Patrick Dolan garnered another postseason honor as the Nicholls special teams standout was named an Academic All-Star by the Football Championship Subdivision Athletic Directors Association on Tuesday.

The 13th annual FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team is made up of 52 Division I FCS football student-athletes from across the country.  Dolan was one of only four football players from the Southland Conference to earn the award.

Dolan, who finished his senior year this past season, picked up Southland Conference first team honors for the third consecutive season back in November.  The Mobile, Ala. native proved to be the most reliable punter in the conference and one of the most reliable in the nation in 2010.

Dolan totaled 2,721 yards on 63 punts for a 43.2 yard per punt average, the best average in the conference and the sixth best average in the country.  He had 17 punts of 50 yards or more, and 26 punts downed inside the 20 yard line.  Dolan set a new Nicholls career record with a 43.1 yard per punt average, 0.2 away from the conference career record, accomplishing all of this while maintaining a 3.77 GPA as a graduate student.

The honor is just the latest postseason honor for Dolan.  The Mobile, Ala. native picked up his third career First Team All-Southland Conference award on Nov. 23.  Dolan then earned national honors by being named to Phil Steele's Fourth Team All-American Team on Dec. 22 before being named second team All-Louisiana by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association on Dec. 25.
