The Colonels head to Hammond to face the Southeastern Lady Lions Sunday.
THIBODAUX, La. – With only one match this week, the Nicholls women's soccer team will have more time to prepare as they take on the Southeastern Lady Lions Sunday afternoon at the Southeastern Soccer Complex.
The Colonels (6-7-1, 0-4 SLC) will be going up against a Lady Lion team that heading into last weekend only had two losses total on the year at 8-2-1. Fast-forward to this weekend where the Lady Lions dropped two-consecutive home matches to Lamar and McNeese by 1-0 scores, and you have a Southeastern team hungry for a win.
Nicholls is still looking to break a conference losing streak that dates back over three years, but still is one victory shy of setting a new season best. The 12 wins in two years is the most for the program during that time, and the 16 in the last three also accounts for the most during that span as well.
Southeastern heading into the match on Sunday is scoring margin of +2.38 and has 31 more goals than their opponents this year with 41 total. But since the start of conference play, the Lady Lions have only scored six goals, while giving up three putting that margin at +.75.
But Southeastern still have four legitimate scoring threats led by Maiya Cooper who leads the conference with 11 goals on the year, Kelsey Salcido third with eight and Karly Dagys who has ten assists on the year. The Colonels defense will have to contend with a team that is averaging nearly ten total points per game and 15 shots per game, but the Colonels have a goalie that is second in saves in
Molly Mersereau and defense that has only allowed given up three goals in the last two games.
The match will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday in Hammond.
