Final Stats Nicholls-UTSA Box Score

SAN ANTONIO, Texas –
The Nicholls State volleyball team fell in straight sets to the UTSA Roadrunners 11-25, 13-25, 14-25 Saturday afternoon.

The Colonels fall to 15-9 on the year and 2-6 in Southland play, while the Roadrunners have swept every conference opponent this year and improve to 14-8 and 8-0 in conference.

The Colonels hit a season-low -.010 and 20 kills on the day, as Jennifer Brandt had seven kills to pace the Colonels on the day. The Roadrunners had three players with double-digit kills, led by Whitney Walls' 12 to lead all players in the match.

Nichols surrendered seven-straight to open the match, with the streak only being broken by a UTSA attack error. The Roadrunners had four different possessions that resulted in multiple point rallies for UTSA, and the Colonels could never make up any ground dropping the first set 25-11.

The Colonels kept the second set much closer than the first, staying within two to four points of UTSA early, but the Nicholls offense stalled at nine points for a bit, as the Roadrunners scored five straight to go up 16-9 in the second set. Nicholls would be able to scatter four more points in the set to get to 13 points, but dropped the second 25-13.

After two dismal starts in the first two sets, the Colonels played their best in the early going of the final set, forcing eight ties in the first 18 points at 9-9, but UTSA scored eight-straight points to take the 16-9 lead. The momentum was enough to push UTSA to the 25-14 set win.

The Colonels will have a short turnaround, hosting the Southeastern Lady Lions Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Stopher Gym.
