Lady Lions Run Past Nicholls 5-2

HAMMOND, La. – After earning a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play, the Nicholls women's soccer team surrendered three goals in the first period and two in the second, eventually falling to the Southeastern Lady Lions 5-2 Sunday in Hammond. 

Nicholls (6-8-1, 0-5 SLC) has now lost its last five matches, but scored a goal for the first time in the last three games. 

Keisha Brown scored for the first time since playing Prairie View A&M, scoring off of a corner kick from Sam Etherington in the 20th minute of play to put Nicholls up 1-0 over the Lady Lions (9-4-1, 3-2 SLC). Brown also assisted on Kristy Tatom's sixth goal of the year in the 65th minute, her first since the ULL game.

Three minutes after Brown's goal, Kelsey Salcido netted the equalizer for the Lady Lions off a free kick to tie the game. Salcido would have a hand in two of next three Southeastern goals, earning an assist in the 44th minute to put the Lady Lions up 2-1. Then after a goal in the 53rd minute to put Southeastern up 3-1 Salcido scored again getting the assist from Kyle MacIntosh for a 4-1 lead.

Sam McNally earned the last goal for Southeastern off of a penalty kick in the 68th minute for the final score of the game.

Molly Mersereau and Amanda Boylson split time in goal with Mersereau starting the first period and Boylson the second. They combined for seven saves and five goals allowed, while Southeastern's Cassie Northrup and Jaci Teresinski combined for five saves and two goals allowed. 

The Colonels will return to action next Friday traveling to Sam Houston State to face the Bearkats at 7 p.m. in Huntsville.
