The Colonels face Southeastern and Stephen F. Austin this week in conference play.
Volleyball Begins Week by Hosting Lady Lions for Homecoming Conference Clash
THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls women's volleyball team begins the week by returning home to face the Southeastern Lady Lions Tuesday night as a part of homecoming week festivities. This will be the second time this year the Colonels have faced the Lady Lions on a Tuesday, the last time earning a 3-1 victory in Hammond, before heading to Stephen F. Austin on Saturday.
The Colonels are on a bit of a slide as of late, dropping the last three matches and six of their last seven. This past weekend the Colonels lost a hard fought 3-2 match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, and 3-0 loss to UT-San Antonio who has swept every conference opponent this year.
The last time the Colonels squared off with the Lady Lions, the Colonels dropped the first set of the match 25-23, but rallied to take the next three sets, but not before Southeastern made things interesting in the fourth set by falling behind late, but earning three straight points to take the set 25-23 on the road. The Colonels gave up 67 kills to the Lady Lions, as four players finished with double-digit kills on the night paced by Paige Dollison and Elizabeth Ramee who finished with 15 and 14 kills, respectively.
The Lady Lions have only played more than three sets three times since conference started, and is 0-8 on the season in that regard. The last win for the Lady lions was a 3-1 win over ULM over a month ago.
SFA has had a bit of an up and down year as far as their schedule goes, sitting at 11-12 on the year and 4-5 in conference play. This will be the only matchup between the two teams this year as the Colonels won last year's match 3-2 here in Thibodaux. The Lumberjills head into the match with some of the best defenders in the league in Madison Hanlan who is second in digs with 5.33 per set and Sabrina Burns who is third in blocks with 1.33 per set.
The match against the Lady Lions will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday night in Stopher Gym, while the tilt against SFA in Nacogdoches is at 1 p.m. Saturday.
