Nicholls-Northwestern State Box Score

NATCHITOCHES, La. - The Nicholls State women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 match to the Northwestern State Lady Demons Sunday afternoon, dropping its second straight match for the first time since losing three-straight earlier in the season. With the loss the Colonels fall to 6-5-1 on the year and 0-2 in conference, while Northwestern State improves to 7-5 and 1-1 in the Southland.

The Lady Demons scored almost immediately out of the gate, getting a goal by Hailey Altenburg in the sixth minute of play from Yanci Johnson to put Northwestern State up 1-0 early, but Nicholls was within feet of tying the game up before the half as a Melissa Pestalozzi shot bounced off the post and was then cleared by the defense.

It wouldn't be until the 86th minute that the Lady Demons put the game away with an unassisted goal by Cassidy Browning to put Northwestern State up 2-0 to put the game out of reach.

The Colonels finished with eight shots on the day, with four on goal, while the Lady Demons fired off 17 in the match, with eight of those on goal. Goalie Molly Mersereau saved six shots on the day playing all 90 minutes in goal, while the Colonels only had one corner kick on the day to Northwestern State's six.

Nicholls will return to action next Friday and Sunday hosting McNeese and Lamar at the Colonels Soccer Complex in Thibodaux.
