Nicholls dropped a tough 1-0 match to the Sam Houston State Bearkats Friday night in Texas.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Playing to a scoreless draw after 45 minutes of play, the Nicholls women's soccer team had two opportunities to overcome a Bearkat goal in the 55th minute, but could not convert on either try and fell to Sam Houston State 1-0 Friday night in Huntsville.
The Colonels' (6-9-1, 0-6 SLC) best chance to score came almost immediately after Sam Houston's (8-9-1, 4-3 SLC) Tricia Mallory found the back of the net to give the Bearkats the lead, when
Melissa Pestalozzi took a loose ball that Sam Houston goalie Michele McCullough couldn't handle and fired on a wide open net, only to have the shot blocked by SHSU's Amanda Biega.
Nicholls was only able to muster two shots on goal the entire night, and eight shots total to Sam Houston's 20 shots, ten being on goal. Each of Nicholls' SOG's came in the second period, as Kristy Tatom had a look at a score early in the 55th minute of play. Senior goalie
Molly Mersereau had nine saves in the match, stopping five shots in the first period and four in the second.
Pestalozzi led the Colonels with three shots on the evening, followed by Tatom who finished with two.

Sam Houston's Zak Kirby and Emily Edenstrom each had five shots for the Bearkats, as Edenstrom had four on goal and Kirby had two. Mallory's goal came with three total shots, two being on goal.
The Colonels will wrap up their conference road schedule Sunday afternoon taking on the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. in Nacogdoches.
