Colonels Fall To Cowgirls 2-0

THIBODAUX, La. – With both teams not giving an inch in the first half, the Nicholls State Colonels women's soccer team were on the defensive from the start of the second, and gave up two goals to McNeese State's Sarah LaLanne,  falling to the Cowgirls 2-0 Friday afternoon at the Nicholls Soccer Complex.

The Colonels (6-6-1, 0-3 SLC) dropped their first match at home this year, coming into today's match with a 5-0-1 record, and have lost three straight. McNeese improves to 6-6 and 1-1 in the Southland.

The Colonels were only able to muster two shots in the first period, while the Cowgirls fired off six, but neither team seemed to find a rhythm offensively.

In the second period, the Cowgirls seemed to keep the ball on the Colonels side of the field, and that's when Tori LaSiter found LaLanne for her first goal of the game, taking an angled shot from the right side to put McNeese up 1-0. Then in the 82nd minute, LaLanne was able to stop a ball in mid flight, and set herself up for an unassisted goal giving the Cowgirls the 2-0 advantage.

Nicholls got more aggressive, getting off six shots in the period to finish the game with eight, having six of those shots be on goal. Lauren O'Brien finished the game with three shots with one on goal, while Amber Moore fired off two, both on goal.

Both goalies finished with six saves in the match, having the opposite number of saves in each period 4-2.

The Colonels will return to action Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. hosting the Lamar Cardinals at the Nicholls Soccer Complex.
