The Nicholls State University men's and women's tennis teams hit the road for a pair of matches in Texas over the weekend with both squads defeating Prairie View A&M 6-1 on Saturday before dropping their matchups with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 5-2, on Sunday.

On Saturday, both squads picked up the first point against Prairie View A&M after going 3-0 in doubles play. In singles action, the Colonels breezed through the matchups, dropping only one point each due to walkover.

In Southland Conference action against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Shayann Vaezzadeh took the No. 2 singles match 6-1, 6-1, and Dmitry Kozionov won in No. 3 play, 6-1, 6-3. In doubles, although the Colonels were shutout against the 62nd-ranked Islanders, two of the three matches were closely contested. Palash Tiwari and Damjan Despotovski fell 8-5 in No. 1 action while Kozionov and Roy Knight lost in extra points, 9-7 in No. 2 spot.

For the women, the Colonels took the top two matches in doubles to earn the first point. Florina Nosca and Natalia Zamora took the No.1 match 8-5 while Melissa Harrison and Tatiana Denezhkina hung on for a 9-8 victory. Zamora also picked up a point with a win in No. 2 singles.

Both squads return to action on Wednesday when they host Grambling at the Colonel Tennis Complex at 1 p.m.
