Josh Dewey is the 17th in-state signee for 2011
THIBODAUX – After receiving 20 commitments on National Signing Day, the Nicholls State University football program added an additional recruit on Monday, signing cornerback
Josh Dewey out of St. Rose, La.
With the signing, head football coach Charlie Stubbs continues to bring in players from Louisiana with a total of 17 members from the 2011 class hailing from the state.
“We are excited to have
Josh Dewey on board,” said Coach Stubbs. “It is important to keep our recruiting philosophy of signing in-state student-athletes in order to build this program to a championship level.”
Dewey, a three-year letterman at Destrehan, had 55 tackles (39 solo) and forced one fumble as a senior for the Fighting Wildcats. On pass defense, the 6'0” cornerback broke up 12 passes while hauling in one interception. Dewey earned First Team All-District honors and was selected to play in the Bayou Region All-Star Game.
While at Destrehan, Dewey helped lead the Wildcats to a 5A State Championship in 2008. He was also a member of the track team where he won district three times and reached the state finals twice.
Charlie Stubbs and the Colonel football team will open up spring practices on March 23 before wrapping up on April 16 with their annual Spring Game.
