Colonels Can't Overcome Texas State

Final Stats Box Score and Play-by-Play

SAN MARCOS, Texas -
Three different Colonels scored in double figures led by freshman guard Dantrell Thomas who poured in a career high of 21 points off the bench and narrowly missed a double-double with eight rebounds.  But it wasn't enough for the Nicholls State University men's basketball team (11-9, 5-4 Southland Conference) which fell victim to a huge first half start by the Texas State Bobcats (10-12, 5-3 Southland Conference) who extended their home court winning streak to seven games with a 75-60 win in Strahan Coliseum on Saturday.

The Bobcats opened the game with a 37-6 run to lead by 21 points with 3:20 left in the first half.  After 20 minutes of play, Nicholls trailed 40-16 in the lockerroom at halftime.

Nicholls put together a strong showing in the second half, outscoring Texas State 44-35, but it was too little too late as Texas State cruised to the 75-60 win.

Thomas's career-high 21 points combined with 14 points from senior forward Anatoly Bose and 12 points from junior guard/forward Fred Hunter to give Nicholls a trio of double digit scorers.  However, Texas State had three double-digit scorers of their own to go along with an offense that saw six players score seven points or more.

The Colonels will now return home to host Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday Feb. 9.  Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. in Stopher Gym.
