Colonels Fall to Islanders, Look to Avoid Sweep on Sunday

The Nicholls State University baseball team (7-10, 0-4 Southland Conference) fell victim to a relentless attack from Texas A&M - Corpus Christi (14-8, 2-3 Southland Conference) as the Islanders claimed a 12-1 win over the Colonels to clinch a series victory on Saturday.  The Colonels will try to avoid a three-game sweep and snap a six-game losing streak in Sunday's series finale, slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch at Ray E. Didier Field.

The Islanders racked up 21 hits, a season high against Nicholls pitching, scoring 12 runs.  Texas A&M - Corpus Christi jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first before adding one more in the fourth and two more in the fifith to take a 6-0 lead.

The Colonels couldn't break through against Islander pitching until the bottom of the sixth when senior shortstop Chase Jaramillo tripled and scored on an RBI groundout by junior left fielder Jeremy Hill to make it 6-1.

However, the Islanders added two more in the eighth before scoring four more in the top of the ninth to make it 12-1.

The Colonels will try to snap their skid on Sunday with a 1 p.m. first pitch at Ray E. Didier Field.
