Dmitry Kozionov has six wins in singles play in 2011
THIBODAUX – After playing eight of their first 10 matches away from home, the Nicholls State University men's tennis team will return to Thibodaux to face the University of Louisiana-Lafayette on Thursday at the Colonel Tennis Complex. First serve is schedule for 1:30 p.m.
The Colonels (6-4) traveled to San Antonio last weekend and split their two matches, picking up a 5-4 win over the University of Incarnate Word. Nicholls took two of the three doubles matches while freshmen Damjan Despotovski and
Shayann Vaezzadeh, and sophomore
Palash Tiwari all earned wins in singles play.
Tiwari holds the best record in singles play for the Colonels at 8-1. The New Delhi, India native suffered his only setback on Feb. 20 against No. 62 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Vaezzadeh is next at 7-3 while Kozionov sports a 6-4 record on the year.
ULL (0-6) comes into the matchup searching for their first victory of 2011. Although the Ragin' Cajuns are winless, they have fallen to formidable opposition. Five of the six teams ULL has faced are nationally-ranked which includes two teams in the Top 10 – No. 7 Baylor and No. 10 Texas A&M. Junior Yanick Mandl leads the squad with two wins in singles while claiming three victories in doubles play.
First serve for Thursday's match at the Colonel Tennis Complex is set for 1:30 p.m.
