Dalton Torres will take the mound for the Colonels against Tulane on Tuesday
THIBODAUX - The Nicholls State University baseball team (7-11) heads to New Orleans in search of an upset of the Tulane Green Wave (16-4) and an end to a pair of streaks with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Colonels will seek an end to a seven-game losing skid, but will face a tall order in derailing a red-hot Tulane club that has rattled off six consecutive wins and victories in seven of their last eight games.
Nicholls will look to regain the form that saw the Colonels win five straight and six of seven from Feb. 23 through March 6 before experiencing a spate of late inning bad luck in a seven-game skid that has seen Nicholls holding a fifth-inning lead in four of those contests.
Nicholls will send freshman left hander Dalton Torres to the mound in search of the first win of his career. The Blanks, La. native will square off against Tulane lefty David Napoli.
The Colonel lineup is led by senior shortstop Chase Jaramillo, who has hit safely in 16 of 18 games this year and leads the team in most major offensive categories, including: battin (.403), slugging (.611), on-base percentage (.442), runs (15), hits (29), extra base hits (7) and total bases (44) while ranking second in RBI (13).
First pitch of the midweek contest is set for 6:30 p.m. at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. A free live streaming audio webcast of the game will be made available at www.ThibodauxOnline.com and on the baseball schedule page of www.geauxcolonels.com.
