Colonels Fall to Lions in 2010-11 Season Finale

Box Score and Play-by-Play

THIBODAUX -
Four different Colonels scored in double figures, led by a pair of standout performances from the Nicholls senior class on Senior Day, but it wasn't enough to overcome a Lion offense that saw three double digit scorers and ten players put their names in the scoring column as the Nicholls State University women's basketball team (8-21, 3-13 Southland Conference) fell to Southeastern Louisiana (13-15, 5-11 Southland Conference) by a score of 77-66 in Saturday's 2010-11 regular season finale at Stopher Gym in Thibodaux.

The Colonels were led by senior guard Ricshanda Bickham, who racked up a team-high 17 points and recorded seven steals to bring her career total to 170, passing Bethi Leonardi for sole possession of eighth place on the school's all-time steals record.  Bickham finishes her two-year Nicholls career with a steals/game average of 3.04, the best per game average in school history.

Senior forward Cassie Hearon also contributed to the Colonel cause with 12 points on 4-for-5 shooting, including going 2-for-2 from three-point range.  Sophomore forward Alisha Allen, who racked up 13 points on 6-for-7 shooting, and freshman guard KK Babin, who totaled ten points, combined to give Nicholls four double digit scorers on Senior Day.

However, after the Colonels took a 38-35 lead into the break at halftime, Southeastern's depth began wearing Nicholls down.  The Lions got double digit point performances from three players with seven other Lions finding the scoring column.  Southeastern took the lead for good with a 10-2 run early in the second half.  Nicholls battled back to within two points as a jumper by Allen made it 49-47 in favor of the Lions with under ten minutes to play, but Southeastern kept expanding it's lead until taking a 16-point lead (their largest of the day) on a layup by Rashima Jenkins to make it 75-59 with 2:06 to go.

The Colonels would get no closer than 11 points, with Hearon's layup with eight seconds left providing the 77-66 margin.

Nicholls concludes the 2010-11 season with an 8-21 record and a 3-13 mark in conference play.  It marks the most overall wins the Colonels have posted since the 2004-05 season and the most wins against Southland competition since the 2007-08 season.
