Nicholls Women’s Tennis Hits the Road for Two Southland Matches

THIBODAUX – After winning their last Southland Conference match, the Nicholls State University women's tennis team will hit the road for two conference matches this weekend. On Saturday morning, the Colonels will take on the University of Central Arkansas at 10 a.m. before a Sunday tilt against Northwestern State University.

Last weekend, Nicholls (6-7, 1-3 SLC) dropped a pair of contests against in-state rivals, Louisiana-Monroe and Louisiana Tech. The Colonels were shut out 7-0 versus ULM and had to forfeit their match against La. Tech due to injuries.

Florina Nosca heads the Colonels in singles play with an 8-4 record while Natalia Zamora is 6-2. Sumana Kalyanasundaram is 7-5 and holds the best conference record for Nicholls at 3-1. For doubles, Nosca and Zamora have paired up at the No. 1 position for 7-2 overall record while splitting their four conference matches.

Central Arkansas sits at the bottom of the standings with a 1-11 overall record and will be seeking for its first conference win in six tries. Sunday's opponent, Northwestern State, is 10-4 with a 4-1 record in the SLC.

Nicholls currently holds the eighth spot in the standings, leading by a slim 0.5 margin over Southeastern Louisiana and University of Texas-San Antonio. The top eight schools qualify for the Southland Tournament.
