Colonels Look for Season Sweep of Privateers
THIBODAUX - After avoiding a three-game sweep with a dramatic come-from-behind victory on Sunday, the Nicholls State University baseball team (17-19) will look to stay on a winning track when the Colonels head to the University of New Orleans (3-32) on Tuesday night.
The Colonels will be looking for a season sweep of the Privateers after Nicholls claimed an 8-4 win over UNO on April 6 at Ray E. Didier Field in Thibodaux. Nicholls first victory over UNO this season came in the midst of a seven-game stretch that saw the Colonels go 6-1. However, after their win over the Privateers followed by the program's first three-game conference series road sweep in nine years at Northwestern State, the Colonels fell victim to a three-game losing skid.
After dropping a pair of nailbiters at South Alabama last Tuesday and in a series opener against Central Arkansas on Friday, Nicholls fell to UCA again on Saturday before the Colonels finally broke their losing skid with an 11-8 come-from-behind win that saw Nicholls score nine unanswered runs for the win.
The Colonels have been led by a resurgent lineup lately as Nicholls has hit .284 and averaged 6.1 runs per game over the last eight games. The Colonels have been led by junior outfielder Michael LeGrange, who has hit .400 over the last eight games, junior infielder Blake Bergeron, who has driven in a team-best nine runs over that stretch, and senior outfielder Scott Moseley, who has hit safely in ten of his last 11 outings.
First pitch between the Colonels and Privateers is set for 6:30 p.m. at Maestri Field in New Orleans. A free live streaming audio webcast will be made available at www.geauxcolonels.com and www.ThibodauxOnline.com. Following the contest, the Colonels will return to Thibodaux to host a three-game Southland Conference series against Sam Houston State beginning with a 6 p.m. first pitch against the Bearkats on Friday night.
