Beaumont, Texas –
The Nicholls State University women's team was unable to clinch its first postseason berth since 1999 as the Colonels fell 5-2 in the Southland Conference finale on Thursday afternoon in Beaumont, Texas.

Nicholls (10-12, 3-8) came into the matchup needing a win to claim the eighth seed of the Southland Conference Tournament; however, UTSA (6-12, 3-8 SLC) played the role of spoilers to keep the Colonels from its third Southland postseason bid in program history.

With Nicholls only fielding five players, the Colonels had to take both doubles matches to claim the point. Sumana Kalyanasundaram and Tatiana Denezhkina paired up at the No. 2 flight for an 8-3 victory, but in the No. 1 match, Florina Nosca and Natalia Zamora came up short by falling 8-5.

For singles play, Zamora picked up a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the No. 2 slot with Kalyanasundaram earning the final Colonel point with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the third position. Along with the forfeit in the No. 6 match, UTSA picked up points as Nosca and Marina Ljoshevska fell in straight sets in the No. 1 and 5 matches, respectively, while Denezhkina was outlasted 6-1, 3-6, 11-9 in the No. 4 matchup.

Nicholls finishes the season with 10 victories, giving the Colonels back-to-back seasons with double digit victories. The senior duo of Zamora and Kalyanasundaram led Nicholls in singles play with Zamora finishing at 12-5 while Kalyanasundaram posted a 12-9 mark.

For doubles, Denezhkina had a team-best 11-5 record with Nosca, Zamora and Kalyanasundaram each winning 10 matches.
