Colonels Look to Upset LSU in Final Midweek Contest

THIBODAUX - After winning four of their last five ballgames, the Nicholls State University baseball team (20-20) heads to LSU (24-17) for an upset of the Tigers in the Colonels' final scheduled midweek game of the season on Tuesday night at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge.

The Colonels enter Tuesday's matchup with the Tigers looking to split the season series with LSU.  The Tigers claimed a 12-8 win at Ray E. Didier Field in Thibodaux on March 16, overcoming a 6-0 deficit after the Colonels scored six times in the bottom of the first.

Nicholls will look to maintain the momentum the Colonels have gained from winning four of their last five games.  The Colonels began last week with a 10-2 win at the University of New Orleans, clinching a season sweep of the Privateers, before taking two-of three against Sam Houston State in a crucial Southland Conference weekend series.  The Colonels have averaged 8.4 runs/game over their last four games while the Nicholls pitching staff has posted a 2.09 ERA and limited opposing batters to a .235 batting average over that same stretch.

Meanwhile, the Tigers will be looking to rebound from a stretch that has seen LSU drop nine of their last 12 ballgames and regain the form that saw the Tigers open the season with 11 consecutive wins and victories in 16 of their first 17 ballgames.

The Colonels will send freshman left hander Dalton Torres to the mound on Tuesday night to square off against LSU right hander Ryan Eades.

First pitch against the Tigers is set for 6:30 p.m. at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge.  A free live streaming audio webcast will be made available at www.geauxcolonels.com and www.ThibodauxOnline.com.
