Nicholls Women's Tennis Knocked off by Northwestern State

NATCHITOCHES, La. – The Nicholls State University women's tennis team completed its Southland Conference two-match road trip on Sunday against Northwestern State University, falling 6-1 to the second-place Demons at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.

Northwestern State (12-4, 6-1 SLC) swept the double matches to earn the point, and went on to take five of the six singles matches. Natalia Zamora picked up the lone point for the Colonels, taking the No. 2 singles match 6-4, 6-1.

In doubles action for Nicholls (7-8, 2-4 SLC), Zamora and Florina Nosca fell 8-4 at No. 1, Sumana Kalyanasundaram/Marina Ljoshevska lost the No. 2 match 8-3, and Tatiana Denezhkina/Melissa Harrison were ousted 8-4.

As in yesterday's match against Central Arkansas, Nosca was outlasted in a heated battle in the No. 1 position, falling in three sets against Olga Bazhanova 4-6, 6-3, 10-5. Kalyanasundarum was dropped 6-0, 7-5 at No. 3 and Denezkina fell at the No. 4 slot 6-2, 6-2. Rounding out the results was Ljoshevska at No. 5 with a 6-1, 6-3 defeat and NSU won the sixth point via forfeit.

The Colonels return to the courts on Tuesday with a non-conference match at Southern University. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m.
