The Colonels will look to stay hot at Northwestern State this weekend
THIBODAUX - After capping a successful seven-game homestand, the Nicholls State University baseball team (13-16, 3-9 Southland Conference) hits the road to take on Northwestern State in Natchitoches, La. for a three-game series starting with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch on Friday night.
The Colonels will look to continue the success they found on their recent seven-game homestand when they arrive in Natchitoches to take on the Demons. Nicholls went 5-2 over the last seven games, picking up wins over Loyola-New Orleans, Alcorn State and the University of New Orleans as well as taking two-of-three from Texas-Arlington last week for the Colonels first conference series victory of the season.
Nicholls will look for its second straight conference series win this weekend, starting with Friday night when Nicholls sends staff ace Seth Webster to the mound. The junior right hander enters the weekend ranked third in the Southland Conference with a 1.67 ERA.
However, Northwestern State boasts a formidable pitching staff of its own. The Demons are led by Sunday's scheduled starter, Colin Bear. Bear boasts a 1.48 ERA, the best mark in the Southland Conference.
Nicholls will look to counter with an improving offensive attack led by senior shortstop Chase Jaramillo. The Andalusia, Ala. native ranks sixth in the Southland Conference with a .386 batting average. Jaramillo is backed up by junior outfielder Jeremy Hill who has hit safely in four of his last five games, and junior first baseman Blake Bergeron, who has gone 5-for-8 with four extra base hits in two games this week.
First pitch for Friday night's series opener between the Colonels and Demons is set for 6:30 p.m. in Natchitoches. Game two is set for a 2 p.m. first pitch on Saturday with Sunday's series finale set for a 1 p.m. start time. All three games can be heard via a live streaming audio webcast at

The Colonels will return to Thibodaux on April 15 when Nicholls opens a three-game Southland Conference series against Central Arkansas.
