Colonels Fall to Bobcats in Series Finale

Box Score and Play-by-Play

SAN MARCOS, Texas -
The Texas State Bobcats (34-17, 23-7 Southland Conference) showed the form that has made them one of the nation's top 25 teams, piling up 15 hits against the Nicholls State University baseball team (23-27, 12-18 Southland Conference) as the No. 25 Bobcats finished a three-game sweep of the Colonels in a 14-3 victory on Sunday in San Marcos.

The Colonels struck first with a run in the top of the second.  Junior first baseman Blake Bergeron scored an error off the bat of senior right fielder Scott Moseley to stake Nicholls to a 1-0 lead, but Texas State rallied for a run in the bottom of the second to tie things up at 1-1.

Nicholla took a 2-1 lead  in the top of the third as senior center fielder Bear Comer scored on an RBI groundout off the bat of junior left fielder Jeremy Hill in the top of the third, but the Bobcats struck for six runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good.

After taking a 7-2 lead after three innings, Texas State added two in the fifth, two in the sixth and three in the seventh.  The Colonels added one in the fifth, but it wasn't enough to avoid the Bobcats invoking the Southland Conference's ten-run rule and shorten the game to seven innings.

The Colonels will now return to Thibodaux to host McNeese State in the final three-game series of the regular season.  First pitch for game one of the three-game Southland Conference series against the Cowboys is set for 6 p.m. on Thursday at Ray E. Didier Field in Thibodaux.
