2011 All-Southland Conference Baseball Teams

FRISCO, Texas -
For the second consecutive year, the Nicholls State University baseball team placed three members on the All-Southland Conference teams as the Southland Conference announced it's 2011 All-Conference Teams on Monday afternoon.

Junior right handed pitcher Seth Webster led the way for the Colonels, earning first team All-Southland Conference honors after a breakthrough junior season.  After sitting out the 2010 campaign with an injury, Webster became a workhorse for the Colonels in 2011.

Webster led the conference with six complete games and ranked second in the league with a 2.54 ERA (28.1 ER/99.1 IP).  The Delville, La. native worked 9.0 IP in seven of his final nine outings and recorded three consecutive complete games from April 21 through May 6.  Over that same stretch, Webster went 20.1 IP without allowing an earned run and 28.1 IP without walking a batter.  Webster became the first Nicholls baseball player to be named to the All-Southland First Team since Bubba Bell in 2005.

Junior designated hitter Jeremy Hill joined Webster as the DH on the All-Southland Conference Second Team.  Hill, in his first season at Nicholls after transferring from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, turned in a .308 batting average, 34 RBI and 28 runs scored.

After his batting average dipped to .250 at the start of April, Hill turned in one of the hottest second halfs in the Southland Conference this season.  Since April 2, the Long Beach, Miss. native has .357 (40-for-112) with 21 RBI and 16 runs scored over 28 games, hitting safely in 22 of those contests.

Over his last 28 games, Hill has recorded 13 multi-hit games, including nine two-hit games, three three-hit games and one four-hit game.

Senior shortstop Chase Jaramillo rounds out the Colonels crop of all-conference selections as the the All-Southland Third Team shortstop.  The Andalusia, Ala. native started all 51 games at short for the Colonels, leading the team and ranking fifth in the Southland Conference with a .352 batting average.  Jaramillo also led the Colonels in slugging percentage (.454), on base percentage (.396), runs (39), hits (76) and total bases (98).  Jaramillo also ranked among the top five on the team in doubles, triples, home runs, walks and scarifice flies.

The Colonels three All-Southland Conference selections equals the Colonels total from last season when current Colonel Bear Comer was named All-Southland Conference Second Team along with former Colonel Clint Dempster and former Colonel Tyler Minto who earned All-Southland Conference Third Team honors.

Webster, Hill, Jaramillo and the rest of the Colonels will return to action on Wednesday when they face off against the No. 1 seed, regular season champion and tournament host Texas State Bobcats at the 2011 Southland Conference Baseball Tournament at Bobcat Field in San Marcos, Texas.  First pitch between the No. 8 seeded Colonels and the Bobcats is set for 7 p.m.  Links to live stats and live streaming audio will be made available at www.geauxcolonels.com, www.southland.org and www.ThibodauxOnline.com.
