Sophomore Alexandra Marino scored her second goal in as many games
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Nicholls State University women's soccer team traveled to Tennessee to face Lipscomb University on Friday evening and was handed its first loss of the season, falling 3-1 to the Lady Bisons.
Trailing 2-0 after a pair of early goals, sophomore
Alexandra Marino netted her second goal of the season in the 29th minute to cut the deficit in half. Nicholls (1-1-1) managed to get off four more shots before Lipscomb (1-1-1) added a late insurance goal with less than four minutes remaining to seal the 3-1 victory.
For the game, the Colonels finished with seven shots with three on goal, while Lipscomb tallied six shots on goal out of eight. Sophomore
Nicole Doherty led the Colonels with three shots, including two on goal.
Marino's goal, her second in as many games, came just three minutes after Lipscomb grabbed a 2-0 lead. Marino found an opening in the lower right side of the net against goalkeeper Erin Zerio to notch her fourth career goal.
Three different players accounted for goals for the Lady Bisons, who improved their all-time record against Nicholls to 2-0.
The Colonels will return to action next weekend with two games in Troy, Ala. Nicholls will face Troy University on Friday at 3 p.m. before playing South Alabama on Sunday.
