Soccer Hosts MVSU, ULL This Weekend

Thibodaux – The Nicholls State women's soccer team will return to action this weekend beginning Friday afternoon hosting the Mississippi Valley State Devilettes and the ULL Ragin Cajuns on Sunday at the Colonel Soccer Complex.

The Colonels only had one match last week, defeating the Prairie View A&M Panthers 4-0, with four different players scoring for the team. Keisha Brown, Kandice Champagne Janelle Brandom and Lauren O'Brien each scored for the Colonels, with O'Brien earning the assist on Brandom's goal.

Molly Merserau and Amanda Boylson teamed up for the second shutout for Nicholls this year, as the Panthers only mustered 11 shots in the match, and five on goal. Brown's goal and defensive pressure earned her an honorable mention nod for defensive player of the week from the SLC.

The Devilettes head into Friday's contest winless on the year after dropping a 4-0 decision to Southeastern last Sunday. MVSU has yet to score a goal this year and has been shut out in all four matches it's played in.

A day after each respective school will meet on the gridiron, Nicholls and ULL will meet on the pitch in Thibodaux, the Cajuns coming off of a loss to conference-foe McNeese 2-0 on Sept. 11. At 4-2-1 on the season, the Cajuns are fifth in the overall Sun Belt standings and are tied for second in the SBC in shutouts with three, but lead the league in yellow cards with six.

The match on Friday against the Devilettes begins at 4 p.m., with Sunday's match against the Cajuns starting at 1 p.m. Each contest will have live stats available at http://www.sidearmstats.com/nicholls/wsoc/index.htm
