Final Stats Jackson, Miss. - In their last contest before beginning conference play on Thursday, the Nicholls State women's volleyball team had just one more obstacle before beginning their quest for a SLC title: a rematch with the Jackson State Tigers. The first of only two teams to take the Colonels to five sets this year welcomed the Colonels with another five set thriller, but the outcome was the same as Nicholls defeated JSU 3-2, 25-21, 19-25, 20-25, 25-23, 16-14 Tuesday in Mississippi.

The Colonels(13-3) have now won 12 straight matches dating back all the way to Sept. 2. and is one win shy of tying last year's win total of 14.

Kathryn Stock earned her third double-double of the year with 15 kills and 14 digs against the Tigers, as Nicholls finished with a season-high 22.5 blocks in the contest. Jordan Karst's 27 assists and Rachel Yezak's 22 digs round out Nicholls' top performers.

With both teams feeling each other out, the Colonels would rattle off six straight points after the score was tied at 8-8, and never looked back rattling off multiple point streaks to win the first set. Nicholls would keep the match close early in the second, but the tandem of Chyna Coleman and Christine Edwards put away any hint of a comeback compiling multiple kills between each of them.

After multiple ties in the third set, Nicholls found themselves in a hole midway through the third set down 19-14, but clawed to within four of the Tigers before Edwards would earn the last three points the Tigers needed to win the set. Up one with only one more set to win, the Tigers did everything possible to try and finish off the Colonels and their streak, but the Nicholls defense forced the Tigers into costly attack errors late that set up the deciding fifth set. Things looked bleak for Nicholls early down 7-4 in the final set, before out-scoring the Tigers 5-2 over the next seven points to pull even with JSU. five ties later, the Colonels defense stepped up once again forcing Coleman into Jackson State's 28th attack error of the night and stamping the Colonels win.

Nicholls will begin Southland Conference play on Thursday taking on the McNeese State Cowgirls in Lake Charles.
