Soccer Travels To Grambling, Hosts Southern This Weekend
THIBODAUX – The Nicholls State women's soccer team will return to action this weekend matching up with Grambling on the road and hosting Southern Sunday afternoon at the Colonel Soccer Complex.
Nicholls is winners of their last three matches and is a perfect 4-0-1 at home this year outscoring their latest opponents 9-2 over that stretch, including a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over UL-Lafayette this past Sunday.
Kristy Tatom scored three goals in victories over Mississippi Valley State and ULL, and had the first game winning goal of her career on Sunday against the Cajuns. She is currently fifth in the conference with 12 points on the year and in goals per game average and tied for fourth in goals with five.
The Colonels hover around the middle of the pack conference-wise, sitting fifth in total goals with 16, goals per game average at 2.00, assists per game average with 1.38 and points with 43 total for a 5.38 average.
Heading into these two matches this weekend, the Colonels will face two teams that are a combined 0-11 on the year, have been shut out eight times and only have three goals between them.
In Grambling's seven matches, the Tigers have given up four or more goals in six of them, six or more twice and nine or more twice. Their closest match of the year was dropping a 2-1 decision to Great West-member Houston Baptist. In all, GSU has faced four Southland Conference teams in Lamar, Sam Houston State, Central Arkansas and Southeastern, losing by a combined score of 24-1. Although a 9-0 rout by Southeastern would be a cause for concern, the Tigers gave up 11 goals against North Texas in the second match of the year.
The Jaguars will have only played four matches by the time the blue and gold make their trek to Thibodaux on Sunday, and is on a three-game shut out streak. The lone goal of the year for the team came in the first match of the season in a 5-1 loss to South Alabama. In the next three Southern would lose 3-0 to ULM, 4-0 to Lamar and 6-0 to Houston Baptist.
