Sophomore Alex Romanelli was one of the Colonels to record a shot on goal this weekend
TROY, Ala. – The Nicholls State University women's soccer team traveled to Alabama for two games in the Troy Classic and were held scoreless as host Troy defeated the Colonels, 1-0, on Friday and on Saturday, Nicholls fell to South Alabama, 3-0.
Nicholls (1-3-1) was originally schedule to play South Alabama on Sunday, but the contest was moved up due to potential inclement weather.
For Friday's game against Troy (2-2), the Trojans netted the game's only goal on a header with less than 17 minutes remaining in the contest. Nicholls was unable to get another shot off as Troy picked up its first home win, 1-0.
Troy finished the game with 17 shots (nine on goal), while the Colonels were held to five. Sophomores
Alexandra Marino and
Alex Romanelli, and freshman Beth Cummins each had a shot on target.
On Saturday, South Alabama (5-1) scored two unassisted goals in the first half before adding one more to win 3-0. USA outshot the Colonels 15-8, but only 6-4 on shots on goal.
The Colonels will return to action in Thibodaux when they host Prairie View A&M on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m.
