Colonels Return To Action Against Prairie View A&M Sunday
Thibodaux - In action for the first time in over a week, the Nicholls State soccer team will return to the pitch Sunday afternoon hosting the Prairie View A&M Panthers at 1 p.m. at the Colonels Soccer Complex.
Since earning a split in the first two matches of the season, the Colonels have dropped three close contests, all on the road, and stand at 1-3-1 overall on the season. The Panthers are still winless in 2011, having just lost to Louisiana-Lafayette on Labor Day this past Monday and is 0-5.
The Panther offense has struggled to score this year, only netting one goal in their five games, while Nicholls is only allowing 1.60 goals per game. The Colonel defense has been physical with teams earning a league-high 52 fouls so far in 2011, but has not received a yellow card penalty in any of their five contests.
Offensively, the Colonels are paced in their attack by the freshman-sophomore duo of Kristy Tatom and Alexandra Moreno, as Tatom is among the league leaders in points, points per game, assists, assists per game. Marino is in top 10 in shots, shots per game, points, points per game. Each also rank among the top ten in goals and goals per game.
