THIBODAUX, La. – With only three regular season games remaining, the Nicholls State University women's soccer team closes the road portion of the schedule this weekend, traveling to take on the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears and Northwestern State Lady Demons.

The Colonels are coming off of one of their best showings of the year last Sunday, as the team had the No. 2 team in the league in Oral Roberts on the ropes for most of the game after going up 1-0, before falling in double overtime 2-1. It was the first time all season that the Colonels have played in extra time, as ORU scored in the first minute of the second ten minute period to win 2-1.

In all, Nicholls has been in the thick of many of its matches this season, as the Colonels have lost seven matches by just one goal, while three of those losses have been by 1-0 scores.

Nicholls will take on two teams that are also on the outside looking in this weekend, going up against a Sugar Bears team with one conference win, while the Lady Demons have yet to win a league game this season.

Central Arkansas was 8-2 when they began Southland Conference play, and since that time the Sugar Bears are 1-4-1 and 9-6-1 overall. UCA got its first win in league play in a double overtime 1-0 win over McNeese State in Conway two weeks ago while tying Northwestern State in Natchitoches with a 0-0 score. The Sugar Bears are led by Adrianna Lucar's 14 goals on the season and 42 total points.

This will be the seventh all-time meeting against Central Arkansas, as the Colonels are 0-5-1 against the Sugar Bears and 0-3 in Conway. Game time is set for 4 p.m.

With a 0-4-1 league record, Northwestern State is also looking for its first win in Southland play this season sitting at 5-9-1 overall on the year. The Lady Demons will take on McNeese State on Friday before their meeting with the Colonels on Sunday, as NSU has yet to score a goal against a Southland team.

Yanci Johnson leads the Lady Demons in goals with six on the year, with two game-winning goals to her credit.

Nicholls has never beaten the Lady Demons since joining the Southland in 1998, as Northwestern State has a 20-0-1 all-time mark against the Colonels. Nicholls will be looking for its first win in Natchitoches, as this will be the 12th meeting at the Lady Demon Soccer Complex. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
