Soccer Falls To Central Arkansas, 1-0

Final Stats CONWAY, Ark. - The Nicholls State University women's soccer team hit the road for the first of its final two road games of the season on Friday, falling 1-0 to the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears in Conway.

The loss drops the Colonels to 5-11 on the season and 0-6 in Southland Conference play.

The Colonels outshot UCA 16-7 in the match, holding all but one opposing player to just one shot, but the Sugar Bears netted the game-winning goal in the 39th minute on a header goal by UCA's Maddi Poteet.

Spencer Valdespino, who is currently tops in the league in shots, led all players with six shots on the day with three shots on goal. Kristy Tatom was second with three shots and two shots on goal, followed by Melissa Pestalozzi's two shots on goal.

The Nicholls defense proved to be stout enough that Central Arkansas only mustered four shots on goal in the match, as Amanda Boylson (1-10) stopped three shots, while Sugar Bear goalie Kelsey Gochnauer had to fend off eight Nicholls shots.

The Colonels dominated nearly every aspect of the match, getting six corner kicks to UCA's zero, while outshooting the home side 10-2 in the second half alone.

The Colonels will return to action on Sunday afternoon, taking on the Northwestern State Lady Demons in Natchitoches.
