Sarah Terry hit .538 with 15 kills in the 3-1 win over UNO Tuesday night.
Final Stats NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team snapped a four-match losing skid Tuesday night, earning a 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-15, 25-20) win over the UNO Privateers at the Human Performance Center in New Orleans.
With the win the Colonels improve to 6-10 on the season, ending their longest losing streak of the year in the process.
The Colonels broke out of an offensive slump, hitting an efficient .252 on the night paced by the play of seniors
Sarah Terry and
Jennifer Brandt who each had 15 kills. Terry had only one error on the night and hit .538, while Brandt earned her sixth double-double of the year adding 11 digs.
Nancy Taylor served up 46 assists in the win, as Nicholls had double-digit kills in every set, hitting below .200 just once in the four sets.
Jeanne Logarbo also had 11 digs on the night, while
Jasmine Harris had three blocks to go along with her nine kills and .333 hitting average on the night.
Nicholls led by as many as seven points late in the first set, and used a five point run with the score 20-14 to go on and win the set 25-15.
Up by five in the second, the Colonels reached the 17 point mark first but allowed the Privateers to get momentum which continued to build for the rest of the set. With the score tied at 18, Nicholls scored five straight points to get to 23, on its way to a second set win before UNO retaliated with a 7-0 run to take the set 25-23.
After falling behind early after the intermission, the Colonels battled back from a four-point deficit down 8-4, to go up 9-8 in the third. After a UNO point tied the match, Nicholls went on runs of four and three points to gain enough distance over the Privateers before a 6-0 run at the end put Nicholls up for good and pushed to a 25-15 set win.
UNO pushed the Colonels in the final set hoping to push the match to five, but jumping out to a 6-3 lead after the only tie of the set, Nicholls used just one timeout during the frame to halt a Privateer rally with the score 13-11 in favor of Nicholls. The timeout worked as Nicholls scored the next three points to go up 16-11, getting to the 20-point mark first and fending off another Privateer drive to win the final set 25-20.
The Colonels will be back in action on Thursday night, traveling to take on the Grambling State Tigers.
