Noble Ties Career Assist Mark In 2-1 Loss To Northwestern State

Final Stats NATCHITOCHES, La. – The Nicholls State University women's soccer team scored the opening goal of the match against the Northwestern State Lady Demons on Sunday in the team's final road game of the year, but could not overcome the game tying goal two minutes later and game winner on a fumbled possession with 20 minutes left in the game, falling to NSU 2-1.

The loss drops the Colonels to 5-12 on the year and 0-7 in Southland play. Northwestern State earned its first win in conference play moving to 6-10-1 overall.

In the 24th minute of the game, senior Carolyn Noble sent a pass across the box that found its way to Spencer Valdespino who fired a shot into the right side of the net giving the Colonels an early 1-0 lead. It was Valdespino's fifth goal of the season and first in conference play, while Noble earned her first assist of the year and 14th of her career, tying former Colonel Tori Priddy for most in program history.

It was a fairly close match statistically, as the Colonels held a 15-14 edge in shots, and 8-7 advantage in shots on goal.

Goalie Amanda Boylson (1-11) had five saves on the day with two goals allowed, while Northwestern State's Brooke Bourbonnais had seven saves with one goal allowed.

Two minutes after Valdespino's goal, NSU's Shelby Balmer earned the game tying goal in the 26th minute, knotting the match at one. It stayed that way for over 40 minutes before the Lady Demons struck again in the 69th minute, as Ashlee Savona took a misplayed ball and scored unassisted for the game winner putting NSU up 2-1.

The Colonels close out the 2012 season next Friday afternoon, hosting league leading Stephen F. Austin at 4 p.m. at the Nicholls Soccer Complex.
