Volleyball Finishes Series With McNeese State On Tuesday

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team heads to Lake Charles on Tuesday to take on the McNeese State Cowgirls at 7 p.m. in Memorial Gym.

The Colonels head into their final Tuesday match of the season against the rival Cowgirls looking for their first sweep of McNeese State since the 2009 season.

At 9-14 on the year, Nicholls dropped both matches last weekend to conference-leading Central Arkansas in three sets and Oral Roberts in four sets to sit 4-8 in the league. Nicholls is alone in seventh place with a one-game lead over Southeastern Louisiana who is 3-9, and two games behind ORU at 6-5.

A win over McNeese would give Nicholls sweeps over both bottom teams in the league in Lamar and the Cowgirls, as both are 1-11 in Southland Conference matches this season. Nicholls could go 3-for-3 in sweeps against teams below them by the end of the year as the team closes the regular season against the Lady Lions in Hammond on Nov. 10.

McNeese State is 6-19 on the year and just 3-8 at home in Lake Charles on the season. The Cowgirls have lost three of their last seven matches, and is currently on a seven-match losing skid.

The Colonels defeated McNeese State in four sets on Sept. 15, as Jennifer Brandt became the seventh Nicholls player in team history to amass 1000 kills in a career. Jessica Addicks was named the Southland's Co-Defensive Player of the Week after that weekend as well, as she hit .319 with 21 kills and 17 total blocks.
