THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's soccer team closes out the 2012 season on Friday afternoon, hosting regular season champ Stephen F. Austin at 4 p.m. at the Nicholls Soccer Complex in Thibodaux.
The team will also honor seniors
Carolyn Noble and
Britni Crone who will be in uniform for the final time as Colonels.
The regular season will come to a close with the Colonels looking to capitalize on the positive momentum from the last pair of matches last weekend, taking on a Ladyjacks squad that comes into Friday's match looking to finish the season undefeated in league play.
Last weekend the Colonels dropped a 1-0 match to Central Arkansas, before losing to Northwestern State 2-1 to fall to 5-12 on the year and 0-7 in the Southland. The loss to UCA was the fourth 1-0 loss for the team this year, as the loss to Northwestern State was ninth time the team was defeated by just one goal.
The Colonels took the lead against Northwestern State on
Spencer Valdespino's fifth goal of the year, getting the assist from Noble who tallied the 14th of her career. It tied Tori Priddy for the most assists all-time at Nicholls, with one more putting her all alone in first place.
SFA enters the match 14-3 on the season, winners of seven-straight as the Ladyjacks last loss came to No. 25 Baylor in Waco. Kylie Louw leads the Ladyjacks in points with 26 after scoring seven goals and adding 12 assists on the season. Lacey Lee has been one of the best goalies in the league with her 10.1 shutouts and .917 save percentage, allowing just four goals on the year.
The Ladyjacks own a 19-1-1 all-time record against the Colonels, winning the last 15 matches consecutively. Nicholls' only win in the series came in 2000, with a 1-0 shutout in Nacogdoches.
