KNSU will be the home of Colonel women's basketball
THIBODAUX, La. – Nicholls State University Athletics announced today (Oct. 31) a partnership with KNSU-FM, which will become the radio home of Colonel women's basketball beginning this season.
The student-operated station on the Nicholls campus, 91.5 FM KNSU, is slated to broadcast 27 regular-season Colonel women's basketball games in 2012-13, beginning with the contest at UNO on Nov. 13. Students will handle all responsibilities.
“We're thrilled to announce this agreement with KNSU,” said
Mike Wagenheim, Assistant Athletic Director for Communications. “This fulfills two missions for us. Firstly, it gives our women's basketball program a radio home, which it has lacked for several years. They are more than deserving of this, especially after their record-breaking campaign last year. Secondly, it provides more hands-on opportunities for our students. The alliance between Athletics and the Department of Mass Communication is strong, and this is another example of that, along with our established television internship program and other initiatives we're currently working on together.”
For those outside KNSU's listening area, a live audio stream of each broadcast will be made available, with details to be announced soon. Businesses interested in underwriting KNSU's coverage of Nicholls women's basketball can do so at an affordable rate and the cost is 100% tax-deductible. Contact KNSU sports director Gerald Gruenig at (504) 232-5159 for more information.
"We are very excited about this opportunity to broadcast Colonel basketball games on the airwaves of 91.5 FM KNSU,” said Gruenig. “A lot of hard work has been put in by a number of selfless individuals to make this all possible. I am confident in our broadcasting staff as well as in our radio station to put out a quality sports broadcast Colonel fans from all over the surrounding areas can enjoy."
KNSU provides listeners with an alternative format, featuring a mix of local and independent music that can't be heard elsewhere in the region. Its schedule also includes the public affairs program, Nicholls and You, along with the sports talk show, Overtime, airing weekdays from 12-1 p.m.
