Jennifer Brandt had 22 kills in Nicholls' 3-1 win over Southeastern La. on Saturday
Final Stats HAMMOND, La. – With the seventh seed at stake, the Nicholls State University women's volleyball team faced a tough Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions squad in Hammond on Saturday, but the Colonels hit .329 as a team to win in four sets 25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 25-14.
With the win the Colonels improve to 11-18 overall on the year and 6-12 in Southland Conference play. The Colonels will now take on No. 2 seed Sam Houston State next Friday at 11 a.m. in Conway to kick off the Southland Conference Tournament hosted by Central Arkansas.
Jennifer Brandt led all players with 22 kills on the night, hitting .362 and tacked on ten digs for her 12th double-double of the season, while
Kathryn Stock earned her third double-double of the season with 15 kills and 12 digs on .308 hitting.
Sarah Terry hit a blistering .500 with 12 kills and no errors on 24 swings and had two blocks.
Nancy Taylor served up 51 of a 55 total assists on the night to lead all players, while
Jeanne Logarbo had 16 digs to lead the team.
Courtney Donald led Southeastern with 17 kills and hit .326 for the Lady Lions in the loss.
With the match tied at 22 in the first set, a service error led to the Colonels closing out the first set with kills by Stock and
Jasmine Harris to win the first set 25-23. In the second the Lady Lions got to 20 first, holding off the Colonels to win the second 25-22 to tie the match heading into the intermission.
With a 18-all tie in the third, Nicholls went on a 5-0 run getting three kills from
Jessica Addicks and one each from Brandt, Stock to go up 23-18 and comfortably cruise to the 25-20 set win on kills by Stock and Brandt to end the set.
The Lady Lions would be no match for the Colonels in the fourth and final set, as Nicholls jumped out to a 10-5 lead early, and maintained a steady lead throughout the set to eventually win by 11, 25-11. Nicholls hit .324 in the final frame and converted 73-percent of its sideout chances.
