Colonels Open Up Home Slate against ULM

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team will host ULM for its 2012-13 home opener Friday, Nov. 16. Tipoff at Stopher Gym is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Fans in the Thibodaux area can listen to game on KNSU 91.5 FM, with pregame coverage starting at 5:45 p.m. A live video stream will be available on Colonels All-Access.

Nicholls (2-1) is coming off an 80-66 victory at UNO, which is set to join the Southland next season. KK Babin scored 18 of her game-high 26 points in the first half, and was just a single point shy of tying her career-high. Despite scoring 80, Nicholls only had six 3-pointers on the night and outscored the Privateers 36-18 in the paint. Jasmine Scott led the way in the interior, recording a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

After three games, Nicholls has four players who are averaging double figures, led by Babin's 18 points per game. Babin is sixth in the Southland in scoring, but only one player who's ahead of her has played more than one game. Alisha Allen is second on the team with 11.0, followed by LiaAnn McCarthy (10.3) and Jenny Nash (10.0). Jasmine Scott is next with 8.0 per game, and leads the team in rebounding (8.3).

ULM (0-2) opened the season with a shootout, defeating Louisiana College 110-96 in an exhibition, but has since lost its last two. The Warhawks lost to Stephen F. Austin 80-55 before dropping their game against Tulane, 70-60, Tuesday night.

The Warhawks are led by Jasmine Shaw and Ashleigh Simmons, who are averaging 10.5 and 10 points, respectively. As a team, ULM is scoring 57.5 points, while giving up 75.

ULM defeated Nicholls is last season's meeting, winning at home 78-68 on Dec. 3. Despite Allen's 24 points, the Warhawks picked up their first victory of the season, with Shaw contributing 18 points.

The matchup against ULM is the first of two straight home games. The Colonels will host Louisiana-Lafayette on Monday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m.
