Nicholls will be going for its fourth straight win of the season
THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team will play its final home game of 2012 when the Colonels host Louisiana-Lafayette on Monday, Nov. 19. Tipoff at Stopher Gym is slated for 6 p.m.
The game will be broadcast live on KNSU 91.5 FM, with pregame coverage starting at 5:45 p.m. A live video stream will be available on Colonels All-Access.
Nicholls (3-1) defeated ULM 85-60 in its home opener on Friday, and will be looking to win its fourth consecutive game since dropping its season opener to nationally-ranked DePaul. With a win over Louisiana-Lafayette (2-1), the Colonels would be off to their best start in program history.
In the win on Friday, the Colonels had seven players score at least eight points, led by
LiAnn McCarthy with 17. The Red and Gray also never trailed against the Warhawks, marking the second straight game where Nicholls has led the entire game.
During the three-game winning streak, Nicholls has dominated the opposition in the first 20 minutes, outscoring its opponents 115-78 before the break. The Colonels have led by at least 10 points at the half in each of its wins, including a 42-25 advantage against ULM.
Nicholls is scoring 70.5 points per game on .447 shooting from the field. Despite scoring only four against ULM,
KK Babin still paces the team with 14.5 points per game, followed by McCarthy (12.0),
Alisha Allen (10.8),
Jenny Nash (10.0) and
Jasmine Scott (9.0).
The Ragin' Cajuns head into the matchup hoping to avenge last season's 72-64 home loss to the Colonels. The win for Nicholls snapped a five-game skid in the series, but ULL holds a commanding 38-6 record all-time against the Colonels.
ULL is coming off its first loss of the year, falling to Omaha, 79-67. Under first-year head coach Garry Brodhead, the Ragin' Cajuns have wins over Southern and LSU-Shreveport. ULL is led by Sylvana Okde with 16.7 points per game. Okde is one of four players scoring in double-figures as the Ragin' Cajuns average 73.7 points per contest.
