Final Stats LUBBOCK, Texas – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team notched its fifth consecutive win of the season as the Colonels dominated UNO, 75-45, in their opening game of the Basketball Travelers Invitational at United Spirit Arena Friday night.
With the win, Nicholls (5-1) sweeps the two-game season series against UNO, which dropped to 1-3 on the year. The Colonels continue play in Lubbock on Saturday with a short turnaround, playing host Texas Tech (3-1) at noon. The host Lady Raiders took down Southern Utah in Friday's first game, 73-54.
Senior
Alisha Allen led the Colonels in scoring for the second straight game, finishing with a game-high 17 points on 8-of-10 from the field.
KK Babin was next with nine points and dished out six assists with only one turnover.
For the third time in four games, Nicholls held the lead for the entire duration, jumping out to 9-0 advantage.
Jenny Nash netted five points in the opening run, which eventually turned into a 19-2 lead with 12 minutes until the intermission. The defense continued to put the clamps on, holding the Privateers to only six field goals as Nicholls took a 39-20 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, Nicholls led by as much as 38 points, allowing the reserves to get significant minutes. Eleven Colonels saw the court, with 10 cracking the scoring column. Nicholls' bench outscored UNO's, 31-16, led by
Hope Pawlowski with eight points.
Jasmine Scott and
Kishaun Williams came off the pine for seven points each.
Nicholls shot 46.2 percent from the field, while holding its opponent to 26.5 percent (13-of-49). Both teams had trouble from long range, combining for 4-of-25 with each team making two.
The Colonels had the edge on the boards, 44-33. Scott led Nicholls with six, while UNO's Mathilde Fogelstrom had a game-high 13 rebounds. Fogelstrom was one of three Privateers to score in double figures, finishing with 10. Hayley Alexander led UNO with 16 points, followed by Amber Clay with 11.
