Colonels Fall at Texas Tech, 78-48

Final Stats LUBBOCK, Texas – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team fell behind early to Texas Tech after a 13-0 run and the Lady Raiders forced the Colonels into a season-high 29 turnovers as Nicholls was defeated 78-48 Saturday afternoon at United Spirit Arena.

The loss ended Nicholls' (5-2) five-game winning streak, which matched the longest in program history. The Colonels will wrap up the weekend in Lubbock on Sunday against Southern Utah (1-2), with tipoff scheduled for noon.

Alisha Allen led the Colonels with 14 points, scoring 10 in the first half. KK Babin finished with 12 points and four assists, but had nine of the Colonel turnovers. Texas Tech capitalized off the Colonel miscues, leading to 37 points. The turnovers also paved the way for several easy layups as Tech outscored Nicholls 22-2 in fast break points.

The game started out promising for the Colonels as Babin drained a deep 3-pointer to give Nicholls a 3-2 lead. Allen put Nicholls up three with bucket and then gave the Colonels its final lead of the day at 7-6.

Trailing by one, the Lady Raiders went on a 13-0 run to lead 19-7 eight minutes in. The Colonels were able to trim the margin to 31-21 after a 3-pointer by Babin, but Tech ended the half on a 9-0 run.

Texas Tech continued to pull away in the second half, leading by as 34 points.

Nicholls shot 45.5 percent (20-of-44) from the field and was outrebounded 32-19. The Lady Raiders surrendered only two on the offensive glass.

Tech was led by Casey Morris with 19 points. Kelsi Baker had 12 points and three others finished with 10.
