Nicholls will close out December on the road, starting at Alabama State Thursday
THIBODAUX, La. – After nearly three weeks off, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team returns to the court Thursday, Dec. 13, with a contest at Alabama State. Tipoff at the Acadome is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
The game will be broadcast on the Colonel Sports Radio Network on KNSU 91.5 FM, with pregame coverage set to start at 5:15 p.m. The broadcast is also available on
Colonels All-Access.
Nicholls (6-2), which received votes in the
CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll for the second straight week, is coming off a 2-1 outing in the Basketball Travelers Invitational over Thanksgiving. The Colonels closed out play at Texas Tech with a 65-54 win against Southern Utah.
Alisha Allen and
KK Babin led the Colonels en route to garnering all-tournament team honors. Allen averaged 14.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in the three games, while Babin scored 12.3 points with 4.2 assists per outing. Allen currently ranks eighth in the Southland in scoring (14.3 ppg), followed closely by Babin (13.4).
Alabama State (1-4) heads into the matchup after a last-second loss to Troy, 90-88, earlier this week. Making her season-debut, Quentori Alford led the Lady Hornets with 19 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
ASU has had only one home game this season, where the Lady Hornets crushed Oakland University, which is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association, 105-30. Along with Troy, Alabama State has losses to Auburn (80-43), Samford (49-19) and UAB (74-41).
The Lady Hornets lead the all-time series against Nicholls, 2-0, after defeating the Colonels in their Stopher Gym-debut last season, 61-57. Nicholls led by as much as 11 in the first half, but ASU, helped by 15 points by Danielle Gazaway, rallied to hand the Colonels their only non-conference loss at home.
Following Thursday's game, the Colonels will take on Arkansas State on Dec. 19 before the holiday break.
