Alisha Allen scored 10 points to move to third on the Colonels' all-time scoring list
Final Stats JONESBORO, Ark. – Trailing for most the game, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team put together a 10-2 run in the second half to come within four points against Arkansas State, but the Red Wolves never surrendered the lead as the Colonels fell, 66-58, Wednesday afternoon at the Convocation Center.
Nicholls falls to 7-3 on the year, while ASU improves to 4-7. The Colonels had their two-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 2-1 against teams from the Sun Belt Conference.
Freshman
Emani White came off the bench to lead Nicholls with a career-high 14 points, surpassing her 13-point outing in the last game.
Alisha Allen scored 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting and grabbed five rebounds, and
KK Babin tacked on 10 points.
Nicholls' largest lead came early in the game after
Jasmine Scott made a field goal inside for an 11-5 advantage. Arkansas State used an 8-1 run to take the lead, then pushed it to double figures before the intermission. Down 30-19, White closed out the half with seven straight points to make the score 30-26 at the break.
In the second half, the Red Wolves led by double digits midway through, 44-32, until
Jenny Nash sparked a 10-2 run. Nash, who scored all eight of her points in the final period, scored six in the spurt including a bucket from behind the arc. However, Nash was fouled on a 3-point attempt but could only knockdown one. As a team, Nicholls made 13-of-17 at the line.
The Red Wolves quickly took back the momentum on a basket-and-one by Hanna Qedan, and she made it a four-point play when Scott was charged with an intentional foul. The Colonels never came closer than five points the rest of the way as they suffered their third loss of the season.
Nicholls shot 35.7 percent, including a 21.7 percent (5-of-23) effort from behind the 3-point line. The Colonels were outrebounded 41-34 and finished with 18 turnovers.
ASU's Jane Morrill led all scorers with 21 points and Carlisha Wyatt came off the bench for 14 points.
The Colonels will wrap up 2012 on Dec. 29 at Texas Southern. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
