The Colonels (6-15, 2-7 SLC) led by as many as six points in the second half, but leads in the game would be hard to hold on to, as Nicholls and the Islanders (4-17, 3-6) traded them 15 times with just four ties.

With the score 51-49 from a McBeath 3-pointer, TAMCC's Terrence Jones and Jonathan Jordan combined to go 3-of-4 at the free throw line after a foul and technical was called on the Nicholls bench taking a 52-51 lead with 7:08 left.
Thomas connected on a 3-pointer of his own and gave the Colonels the lead back, and sparked an 8-1 run for the home team with Thomas scoring six of those points.
The Islanders went to the line 21 times overall and 15 times in the second half to keep the game close after the Colonels went up 59-53 with 3:15 left in the contest. But, the Colonels remained cool under the pressure and went a perfect 6-of-6 from the line in the remaining minute of the game to ice the Islanders' chances of winning.
The Colonels finished the night shooting 43-percent from the floor, connecting on eight 3-pointers in the win, and going 13-for-18 from the charity stripe.
Nicholls went into the break leading 32-29, but it was a hard fought lead to gain after trailing by seven points after only ten minutes of play. With the score 19-12 Islanders, the Colonels exploded offensively going on an 8-0 run to take the lead, and outscored TAMCC 21-10 to close out the first half. McBeath hit two of his three 3-pointers in the half and led all scorers with 10 points at intermission.
The Colonels return to action Saturday afternoon hosting the Texas State Bobcats with tipoff set for 3:30 p.m. in Stopher Gym.
