Catherine Gauthier and the Colonels picked up their first win of the season on Sunday
JACKSON, Miss. – The Nicholls State University women's tennis team notched its first win of the 2012 season, defeating Jackson State, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at the JSU Tennis Complex.
Nicholls (1-2) swept the doubles matches, including a forfeit in the No. 3 flight.
Parija Maloo and
Janna Leeuwerik cruised to an 8-2 victory in the No. 1 match, while
Marie Aubert and
Andrea Pont Grau came away with an 8-6 triumph.
In singles play, three Colonels won in straight sets, including Maloo who improved to 3-0 on the year, winning 6-2, 7-5 at the No. 1 position. Aubert took both of her sets, 6-3, at No. 3 and
Marina Ljoshevska almost earned a shutout at the No. 5 slot, winning 6-0, 6-1. Nicholls won the final match by forfeit.
Both of the Colonel losses in singles came in three sets.
Nicholls returns to action on Tuesday (Feb. 14) at the Colonel Tennis Complex when they host William Carey. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
