Baseball Opens Home Slate with Southern Jaguars Tuesday

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls baseball team opens up the 2012 home schedule Tuesday hosting the Southern Jaguars at Didier Field. The Colonels are coming off of a series loss to Southern Miss, winning the first game 5-4 before dropping two games of a doubleheader Sunday 5-1 and 5-2. The Jaguars are coming off of a 2-1 weekend participating in the MLB Urban Invitational in Houston, Texas.
 
The Opening Pitch
The Colonels were able to take the first game against No. 29 Southern Miss last Friday, but dropped both games of the doubleheader Sunday 5-1 and 5-2... Michael LeGrange was a beast at the plate hitting .455 with five hits and two RBI's over the weekend... Seth Webster earned his first win of the year and has won his last three dating back to 2011... The Colonels are looking to beat the Jaguars in Thibodaux for the first time since 2010.

Nicholls/Southern Series Notes
The Colonels hold an 88-38 advantage in all-time meetings against the Jags... Although the Colonels dropped last year's contest to Southern, Nicholls has won four of the last seven meetings between the two teams... Since 2003 the Colonels and Jags have faced each other 20 times and have split all 20 evenly 10-10.

The Jaguars are coming off of a 2-1 weekend in the MLB Urban Invitational in Houston... In their two wins they outscored their opponents 16-2 and overall 17-7... Southern was picked to finish first in the SWAC Western Division... The Jaguars sport first team preseason selections at relief pitcher (Daniel Garcia), shortstop (Demario Ellis) and outfield (Wilmy Marrero)... Nicholls will play Southern in Baton Rouge March 27.
