THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls baseball team took a 3-2 lead over the Alabama State Hornets in their second game of the Colonel Round Robin, but the Hornets capitalized on Nicholls miscues late in the game and got key hits as they defeated Nicholls 6-4 Saturday afternoon in Thibodaux.

After the Hornets pound out three hits to start off the game to take a 2-0 lead, the Colonels took to the bottom of the inning with a leadoff single by
Matt Richard, then promptly stole second to get into scoring position. After a
Ray Eureste walk, Hill loaded the bases on a single to left. After a passed ball brought in Richard and advanced the runners,
Beau Faulk singled to bring in Eureste.
Michael LeGrange reached on a fielder's choice to bring in Hill to cap the scoring for the Colonels in the inning at three runs.
The Hornets went scoreless for the next three innings, but struck again in the fifth and sixth after two errors and three hits, including a triple, led to three more runs for ASU, making the score 6-3 Hornets.
Blake Bergeron responded in the bottom half of the inning, blasting the first pitch he saw over the left field fence for his first home run of the year to make the score 6-4.
In the eighth, the Colonels had their best opportunity to make it a game after
David Zorn, running for Hill who got on with a walk, and Faulk were on first and second with only one out. But LeGrange and
Austin Flores each went down swinging to end the inning.
The Colonels will host the finale of the Colonel Round Robin Sunday at Noon against Stony Brook.
